The Navajo and Blackfoot
The Navajo and Blackfoot religion is very different but very alike at the same time. They both believe in spirits and gods. The Navajo’s gods were Holy People. Holy People were supernatural beings with the power to hurt and help people. Some Holy People were Talking God, Changing Women, Bear, Ant, and Corn People. The Blackfoot believed everything had spirits. They also believed dreams and visions were ways to talk to spirits. Here are some spirits: the underwater spirit controlled the animals and plants. Another spirit, the Thunderbird, is the most powerful except for the Great Spirit. Both tribes also had ceremonies. The Navajo’s ceremonies were designed to restore harmony. Some ceremonies lasted days. The Blackfoot held ceremonies all year long. They also had one Medicine Man per tribe who performed the ceremonies.
